Slots Group Asks Court to Block Investigation COLUMBUS, Ohio
(AP) - A group that wants a referendum on whether electronic slot machines
should be added at horse racing tracks has asked the Ohio Supreme Court to stop
an investigation into its financing.
LetOhioVote.org says Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner is overstepping her
authority and that the proper venue for such a probe is the Ohio Elections
Commission. The group filed a complaint with the high court Monday, asking it
to block subpoenas issued by
Brunner.
Brunner said last month that LetOhioVote.org appears to have violated the
spirit of Ohio campaign finance law by listing
a Virginia
company as the source of the group's $1.55 million in funding.
Brunner accuses LetOhioVote.org of trying to hide the real source of its cash.
She says the law requires disclosure.
