Psych Tests for Bryan Man who Ignored Airport Checkpoint DETROIT (AP) - The government says an Ohio man who walked through a security checkpoint at Detroit Metropolitan Airport
has mental health problems and had no plans for violence.
A federal judge on Thursday ordered Kalyan Policherla, a medical student, to
remain in custody and get a psychiatric evaluation. He's charged with violating security, a
misdemeanor.
Authorities say the 27-year-old Policherla walked through a checkpoint without
a boarding pass Monday. The Bryan,
Ohio, man was wrestled to the
floor after a stun gun failed to stop him.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Louis Gabel says Policherla is lucky he wasn't shot.
Defense lawyer William Hill doesn't dispute the allegations. He says
Policherla's mental problems likely are linked to a car crash in September.
Policherla also faces a misdemeanor in state court.
