Ohio Lawmaker Calls for Hearing on Firings

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio lawmaker says quick action is needed to determine the reason for the sudden firing of the staff of a panel charged with looking out for the once-scandalized insurance fund for injured workers.
House Insurance Chairman Dan Dodd said Thursday he will use his committee's powers to investigate the firing Feb. 16 of all three staffers of the Ohio Workers' Compensation Council.
The staff accuses Director Virginia McInerney of wrongful discharge, religious discrimination and harassment, age discrimination and retaliation. She denies the
complaints.
Dodd has also asked state Sen. Stephen Buehrer the chairman of the council, for an immediate meeting to discuss dealings between McInerney and lawmakers. A Senate spokeswoman says Buehrer has not set a meeting.
