WILMINGTON, Ohio (AP) - Governor-elect John Kasich has chosen a veteran Ohio auditor's investigator as the state's new Inspector General.
Randy Meyer will take over the state watchdog role after heading the auditor's unit that focuses on public corruption and misuse of taxpayer dollars. He also was a senior investigator during his seven years in the auditor's office.
Kasich and Auditor Mary Taylor, who will be Kasich's lieutenant governor, came to Meyer's southwest Ohio hometown of Wilmington on Wednesday to announce the appointment. Meyer is a Navy veteran who also served as a gang investigator for the Ohio Attorney General's office.
He succeeds Tom Charles, who was first appointed inspector general in 1998 and now will head the Department of Public Safety under Kasich.
